Gynaecological Clinical Guidelines:

• Routine prophylaxis for women undergoing Caesarean section.
• Known Group B streptococcus carriers
• Mothers with clinical risk factors but no proven evidence of Group B streptococcus carriage:
  • Preterm labour (<37 weeks)
  • Preterm pre-labour rupture of membranes (PPROM)
  • Prolonged rupture of membranes (>18 hours) at term labour
  • Pyrexia in labour ( ³ 38^oC)

  • UTI during 2nd and 3rd trimesters
  • Post-partum sepsis
  • Infected perineal tear or episiotomy/infected caesarean section wounds
